Rio cancels only velodrome test as build falls behind

Organisers of the Rio Olympics have cancelled what was scheduled to be the only test run before the Summer kick off, reports Reuters.

Due for between April 30th and May 1st, the trial run has been cancelled due to logistical issues with the build. Unloading the Siberian wood from which the track is to be built, as well as installing offices are said to be to blame.

Spokesperson Mario Andrada has said that a training opportunity will now replace the test from June 25th to 27th.

The Rio Olympics, South America’s first, take place from August 5th and run through to the 21st. Andrada stressed that the build would be ready on time for the track racing kick off.
