Sea Otter Classic keeps pedalling as attendance grows again

The momentum is still with Monterey California’s Sea Otter Classic cycle festival, which once again broke its own records, with approximately 75,000 visiting the show (total attendance).

In numbers passed to CIN by the organiser, that 75,000 is broken down to include 9,000 athletes (slightly down from 9,800 in 2018), 400 media reps, 1,000 corporate brands and 8,500 campers, plus 6,500 student visits.

Exhibitor sales were up 30% back in March, with exhibitors from Europe, Australia, China and South Africa. Almost 40 e-bike companies attended and the total number of demo bikes numbers north of 800.

The consumer-facing show is 30 next year and clearly has an increasingly important place in the cycle show calendar. This year’s Sea Otter Classic, which concluded days ago, covered approximately 200,000 sq ft of display space (165,000 sq ft in 2018).

The festival has spun-off Sea Otter Europe, which is growing and in its third year this June. Sea Otter Canada will be launching in Blue Mountain, Ontario this July.

Sea Otter Classic returns to California over 16-19 2020.
