Brompton issues safety recall on its electric bikes

Brompton Bicycle has issued a recall of its electric bikes after becoming aware of an issue with the firmware installed on some of its electric folding bicycles. This effects models which have Version 1-2-7 and Version 1-2-8 Firmware installed.

Under particular circumstances, if a system failure occurs, there is a low possibility that the electric system may continue to assist the motor even when the rider is not actively pedalling. Brompton highlight that the risk of an accident occurring is low, with only one reported minor incident from a customer which did not result in any injury or accident.

Customers with affected bikes must have an upgraded version of the firmware installed on their bike. This can be done free of charge at a local Brompton dealer where a website voucher as compensation will also be available; further information is available at www.brompton.com/recall.

Brompton thank its customers for their continued patience. Additionally, the company’s customer service team are also available to answer any questions of concerns customers may have at www.brompton.com/recall
