Ison to bring Gates Belt Drive to UK trade following Universal Transmissions GmbH deal

Universal Transmissions GmbH, Gates’s European aftermarket partners, is embarking on a new partnership with Ison Distribution Ltd, to bring Gates Belt Drive to the UK trade.

Created by Gates Corporation, a global leader in belt drive technologies, Gates Belt Drive is the best high-mileage bicycle drive on the market (said the brand). Whether for an urban commuter, rugged mountain biker, eBike rider, or casual cruiser, Gates Belt Drive has a grease-free, rust-free and hassle-free solution.

Chris Harris, from Universal Transmissions GmbH, will be on the Gates booth in the Ison Marquee at COREbike to talk about Gates products and answer any dealer questions. Initial stocks of Gates parts will be available from Ison in February.

Available in different performance prices and performance levels, Gates offers specialised sprockets, belts and cranksets for aftermarket servicing.

Although primarily an OEM type product due to the requirement to use a frame designed to be compatible with a 1-piece belt that cannot be split and for that frame to be stiffness test approved by Gates, increasing numbers of designers are making Gates compatible frames meaning that more dealers and workshops are seeing a rise in the number of consumers with Gates equipped bikes.

Lloyd Townsend, MD at Ison Distribution said: “I had noticed that it could become complicated, time consuming and expensive for UK dealers to obtain Gates parts for servicing customer’s bikes. Being able to source parts quickly, and easily, is a key factor in running any efficient bicycle workshop.”

With this new partnership with Universal Transmissions GmbH, dealers will now be able to mix even just 1 Gates rear sprocket with their regular carriage paid Ison order along with everyday lubes, tyres, chains, etc, quickly, making servicing Gates transmissions much easier and more cost efficient for the dealer.
