Johnny Mapplebeck founder of now Pennine Cycles dies aged 101

Johnny Mapplebeck, Founder of Whitaker and Mapplebeck Cycles, now known as Pennine Cycles, has passed away peacefully at 101 years of age.

After returning from the war, Mapplebeck opened the bike shop with his friend in 1946 and built a successful business, despite challenging times along the way. He decided to retire and move to Canada at 80 years old and sold the business to its current owners Paul and Sandra Corcoran.

“If you ever came into the shop when Johnny was there you were always met with a warm welcome, a drink and one of his many wonderful stories.” they said.

Thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.
