Yamaha officially launches its own eBikes
Yamaha is on the move. The motorcycle and eBike motor manufacturer has officially launched it first own-label eBikes with a 3 model line up using Yamaha frames as well as motors.
Simone Curti, eBike Co-ordinator at Yamaha Europe shared the following details: “They are called MORO 07, Wabash RT, and CrossCore RC. They are our first 3 fully branded eBike models (engine + frame). We open a new chapter and consolidate our thirty-year know-how on eBike engines. This is just the beginning…”
The news follows recent announcements, including the brand committing to new manufacturing facilities in France, as part of a dedicated tooling up for eBike motors and components.
Eric de Seynes – Yamaha Motor Europe’s President & CEO – previously reflected, on the company’s entry into the world of electric personal mobility. “The concept of mobility has continuously evolved over the years, and consequently our cities and infrastructures have adapted to these changes. However, one thing that has remained the same over the decades is the universal desire and need for personal mobility that gives a real sense of freedom.”
With Porsche clearly leading the auto industry charge for e-mobility and eBikes, other brands making moves include MV Agusta, Harley Davidson (with Serial 1) and Ducati (in partnership with Thok) all having varying degrees of investment in eBike programs
The Yamaha entry comes at a time when cycle retailers are looking to engage with an audience which previously did not consider cycling as a form of transport, a view which is shifting rapidly, driven changes in economic and environmental outlook.
