Okawa launches into e-mobility space with unconventional business model

Okawa has announced its launch into the e-mobility marketplace with a disruptive business model focused on long-lasting products, recycling, and a strong service proposition; keep e-bike users on their bike and servicing simple for dealers and agents.

The China headquartered business counts the Yadea Group, a major player in the field of e-mobility, which sold over 14 million e-two-wheelers last year (2021), as its largest shareholder.

Okawa approach to design and manufacturing sees the business applying automotive industry standards to its e-bike systems, with a rigorous QC process including both systematic laboratory tests and intensive endurance tests, guaranteeing the quality and durability of the products.

“We want to combine the best of both worlds right from the start,” emphasises Jack Brandsen, General Manager of the European Division of Okawa Motor Technology Co. Ltd.

Those familiar with the e-bike industry will know Brandsen brings extensive industry specific knowledge and experience to the Okawa business, having previously spent 6 years as the General Manger Europe for Bafang.

“Unlike our established competitors, our focus is not on selling products with a limited-service life, without consistent service management and end-to-end recycling strategy. Instead, the customer ‘buys’, or better say subscribes from us exactly the e-mobility they need for their business or – at a later stage – private use.”

Supporting dealers and agents is Jasper Koebrugge, as Okawa Head of European Services. Prior to joining Akawa Jasper had previously worked as the Europe based Customer Service Team Lead for Bafang.
