Riese & Müller at IAA Transportation: Cargo bikes for the fire service & chimney sweeps

IAA Transportation is underway in Hanover this week, with some notable bike brands presenting commercial vehicle-centric bikes, not least Riese & Müller.

The eBike and cargo bike brand is exhibiting at the show for the second time, part of an effort by some in the trade to get a foothold in the business sector with a sustainable mobility solution.

Highlights of this year’s IAA Transportation (sister show to IAA Mobility) appearance include a Packster 70 intended for use by the fire service, and a Transporter2 85, which is used by a firm of chimney sweeps.

The Packster 70 is a special design for the Reichelsheim Fire Service, where it will be used to transport material, as a safety vehicle for events and for exercises. It has a small turning circle thanks to its cable-controlled steering and so can also be manoeuvred in narrow streets, offering plenty of space for equipment and materials on its large loading area.

The Transporter2 85 being exhibited is intended for a Berlin-based firm of chimney sweeps which has been using cargo bikes in its fleet for several years. With its sturdy, lockable Utility Box, the cargo bike provides extra-large, protected storage space for tools and small parts. A ladder can also be mounted on the side. It means that tradespersons can now ride directly to the customers’ front door – and looking for parking spaces in town is now a thing of the past.

Riese & Müller’s targeting of the business sector has been running some years, including a hire scheme for small businesses.
