Zedify launches recruitment drive to boost number of women in logistics industry

“Women Delivering the Future” was a Zedify-hosted event in Hoxton, taking place late last month, to help increase the number of women in logistics.

The interactive event, run in collaboration with Loud Mobility, offered women chance to explore careers in cargo bike delivery and the wider logistics sector. The logistics industry is another that has a significant gender imbalance, with 19% of the workforce being women.

Coupled with the statistic that 73% of women in urban areas do not cycle, there’s a clear need for activity to bring more women into cycling – as well as a recruitment problem ahead for the logistics industry. Zedify, operating at the intersection of logistics, cycling, and tech – with all three traditionally male-dominated – is well placed to help drive change, the firm said.

Rob King, CEO of Zedify, explains: “At Zedify, we recognise that the lack of gender diversity in logistics is not just a social issue, but a commercial one. Studies show that gender-diverse teams are 47 percent more profitable, and we see the positive effects of balanced teams every day. Our own data reveals that our mixed-gender delivery teams are not only more efficient but also report greater job satisfaction. It’s time we address this imbalance head-on.”

Zedify Brand Manager, Rebecca Young, said: “This event is one of our first major steps towards unlocking our riding roles for more women. It’s all very well saying that we need more gender balance in our teams, but this is a tough nut to crack and we know words are not enough; we think a proactive, bold approach is needed if we’re to see real change.”

Key speakers at the event included:

● Caz Connelly and Georgia Yexley, Co-Founders of Loud Mobility
Jeyda Heselton, Founder of Fettle
● Brittany Edgen, Zedify Hub Manager, who began her journey as a rider
● Mariam Draaijer CEO of Joyriders
● Calum Rodgers from The London Bike Kitchen

Caz Conneller, Director of Community and culture at Loud Mobility, said: “Role models and opportunities are absolutely vital if we want to steer this fast-moving, exciting sector in a more balanced direction. This is exactly what we created on Thursday evening at Women Delivering the Future. It was an evening of inspiration and connection and I look forward to the next chapter and what we can learn and achieve together.”

“We see this recruitment drive as more than just filling roles—it’s about creating opportunities for women to thrive in an industry that’s ready for disruption,” added King. “With many of the forward-thinking, sustainability-minded brands we partner with being led by women, this initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to build better cities, better deliveries, and a more equitable society.”

Four women who attended were interested in trial shifts as a direct result of the event and Zedify invites all interested women to attend future events.

King concludes: “This is not just a one off, keep an eye out for upcoming events and partnerships as we spearhead this campaign to get more women into cargo bike delivery and logistics more generally.”
