Bosch buys Magura’s stake in MBPS in strategic expansion of service business

What began as a joint venture has become solely owned by Bosch eBike Systems, which has bought Magura’s share of MAGURA Bosch Parts & Services (MBPS).

The move has been labelled a sign of Bosch eBike Systems “strengthening its position in the service business” – previously it held a 50% stake in MBPS as part of a joint venture with Gustav Magenwirth GmbH & Co. KG (MAGURA).

MBPS specialises in the service and sale of components for bicycles and eBikes, with a network of over 30,000 specialist dealers in Europe.

In recent years, MBPS has seen its business in service and aftermarket products for eBikes develop very positively. The acquisition of MBPS is the logical next step in continuing to strategically expand its eBike service offering in Europe, it said.

“Excellent service and close contact with specialist dealers are crucial to the success of Bosch eBike Systems,” said Armin Harttig, Head of Sales and Service at Bosch eBike Systems. “We are now investing further in this foundation. With the acquisition of MBPS, we are ideally positioned to respond rapidly to diverse market requirements and at the same time strengthen our service business in Europe in the long term.”

With the sale of its MBPS stake, MAGURA will continue to focus on its core business. Fabian Auch, partner at MAGURA, added: “Through consistently strong partnership over several years, MAGURA and Bosch eBike Systems have transformed MBPS into a successful leading company for the service and sale of components for bicycles and eBikes. I am confident that the complete acquisition of MBPS by Bosch eBike Systems will create an excellent, sustainable structure for MBPS customers, sales partners and employees and open up new perspectives.”

As part of the transaction, it was agreed that MBPS will continue to provide service and replacement parts distribution for MAGURA products. MBPS will continue to specialise in service and replacement parts distribution for Bosch eBike Systems and MAGURA products as well as products and offerings from other premium brands in the bicycle industry. The company will operate as an independent, wholly owned Bosch subsidiary. The company’s headquarters and its workforce of around 170 people will remain in Nürtingen, Germany. The acquisition is subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
