Cannondale LAB71 goes public

Cannondale has today officially opened the doors on LAB71, announcing the start of a new chapter for the brand.

LAB71, as a logo, has already been seen on the not so secret, not yet officially launched, 2023 SuperSix Evo, as ridden by the women and men of Team EF.

Todays announcement outlines what LAB71 is all about: “We’re introducing a new tier of ultra-high-performance bikes and framesets. It’s where our highest execution of materials, parts, and finishing details can be found. It’s where decades of engineering mastery are channelled. It’s where our spirit of innovation is fully unleashed. It’s where performance is perfected.” states Cannondale.

As was correctly guessed, LAB71 reflects Cannondale’s origin story. A brand more than 50 years old, founded in 1971 by Joe Montgomery and Murdock MacGregor.

Todays announcement, simply states; “Frames and bicycles that emerge with the LAB71 moniker are made to dominate. LAB71 is a division with one simple mandate: to make the machines of dreams.”

Every component analysed. Every material optimized. These are creations to covet, but more importantly, creations to ride. Bikes that beckon and inspire. Bikes that transcend the expected. Bikes that let you reimagine what’s possible.”

Reading between the lines, there is the suggestion of semi custom paint options exclusive to LAB71 bikes, whilst those with long memories might also be thinking, ‘this sounds like ‘Black Inc‘ from 2014, meets Leichtbau from 2022, repackaged and relaunched as a regular series, rather than a genuinely limit run of bikes.’

As yet there are no bikes listed in the LAB71 collection on the Cannondale website, so a teaser email is all we have to share. For Now.
