Canyon US recalls 2018 Spectral mountain bikes due to crash hazard
UPDATE:
“Please note this release is exclusive to Canyon’s US customers and the contact number we have provided is for Canyon in the USA should anyone think their bike is affected.
“Canyon’s extensive analysis identified the quality concerns occurred on bikes from first production. These bikes had been distributed almost exclusively to the USA. In order to identify the limited amount of bikes from first production in Europe and the rest of the world, Canyon also proactively contacted all customers outside of the USA with the offer of a replacement stay extended to those potentially affected bikes but they continue to handle every case diligently.”
Canyon US has issued a recall for its 2018 Spectral full-suspension mountain bikes with aluminium chainstays.
Recalled models include: M71 Spectral CF 9.0 PRO, M71 Spectral CF 8.0, M53 Spectral AL 6.0, M74 Spectral WMN CF 7.0 and M50 Spectral WMN 6.0.
According to Canyon, the chainstays can crack and lead to failure of the chainstay, rear wheel detachment and loss of control which poses a crash hazard.
The firm is aware of 20 chainstays cracking which could lead to failures, however no injuries have been reported.
The brand has urged US consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mountain bikes and contact Canyon to receive free replacement and installation of chainstays. Canyon is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
