GoPro poaches top Apple hardware designer, shares spike as a result

GoPro has reportedly poached Daniel Coster, a New Zealander who was among Apple’s elite designers.

Taking up the role of vice president of design, Coster will report directly to CEO Nick Woodman and starts this month.

The hardware designer is credited in patents contributing to the iPhone 4 and iPad’s wireless keyboard, among up to 500 others in his portfolio stretching back as far as 1993.

The news saw shares in the business spike on Wednesday afternoon, which is good news for the firm, which hads been stalling of late.

New products such as the Karma drone camera and a proposed six camera unit dubbed the Omni VR are due shortly.

GoPro also recently acquired mobile editing apps Splice and Replay in a move which the CEO Nicholas Woodman said would see the manufacturer offer “the fastest and most enjoyable mobile editing experience” to date.
