Nextbike’s developments in bikesharing sector
Europe’s leading bike sharing provider nextbike Group is active in 400 cities across 23 countries globally, having reached a total of 51 million rides last year. This grow reflects a continuous increase in demand and how the practise is more than just a trend, becoming part of daily routines for many customers.
Germany currently has 40,000 nextbikes operating in over 150 cities, with the DACH region experiencing a 50% increase in new time riders in March 2025 when compared to March 2024.
The company entered the French market in 2024, and have followed that up this year by entering the Belgian market in an effort to consolidate its position as a European leader. The system has entered the greater Brussels area (Vlaamse Rand), as well as being introduced to Leon and Mulhouse in France and Braunschweig and Leipzig in Germany.
Latest developments mean of the 39 projects awarded to the company, five have now been completed. A further 13 contracts have now been added to this list including cities such as Cergy-Pontoise and Wroclaw.
Central and Northern Europe are the focus points for the company, with acquisition of Nextbike Polska reflecting this. The company is drawing on its expertise in implementation, using bike sharing as an extension of public transportation networks, to gain an advantage over competitors.
Building on its existing service success, nextbike will now launch its enhanced app to help customers have an improved experience using its service. This will feature a map redesign being clearer, smarter, and more precise. Return areas will be more recognisable and identifiable on the new app, as well as having context related information.
App wallet functions have been improved, allowing customers to have faster access to tariffs, bookings, and payment methods. This will be in a transparent way so customers are always presented with the information they need.
Reports and inquiries can be processed through the app to improve in-app support functions. Developed in house, the new app marks the way forward for nextbike.
