‘Walk It, Ride It’ campaign rolls out West Yorkshire

Following up a successful effort in Leeds last year, the ‘Walk It, Ride It’ campaign is being rolled out across West Yorkshire, taking in Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds.

Using ten real-life, first-person travel and transport testimonials from across the region, the campaign will use the stories to highlight how “every trip matters” and how more sustainable transport options are possible. Social media, local radio, billboards, digital sites, bus advertising and more will be utilised to spread and share the message.

One of the stories includes a father doing nursery pick-up bike rides with his young daughter, explaining how cycling in the family has a positive impact on their health, wellbeing and finances.

The ‘Walk It, Ride It‘ campaign comes as the new Leeds eBike hire scheme is being launched, with the first eBikes now available to use.

The campaign runs over the following 12 weeks (having launched yesterday at Bradford’s Centenary Square) and there might be an opportunity for bike shops in the West Yorks region to put a campaign poster in their windows to support it. CIN has asked the West Yorkshire Combined Authority for more potential ways for bike shops to take part.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Every trip matters, and everyone makes a difference.

“We want to encourage people to really consider their travel habits and make the right choice for the right journey.

“This campaign aims to do that by using real-life stories from people living within our communities to shine a light on their personal travel tales and how they are making a difference.

“We’re working hard to ensure transport in the region is easy, simple and affordable, making a better-connected West Yorkshire that works for all.”
