Tender for delivery of grant funded Scottish bike park goes public
A prior information notice of a tender to deliver a bike park in Scotland has gone live this week with the potential to obtain up to £6 million in Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal cash for the project’s completion.
The opportunity to design, build and eventually operate what aims to be a world class, year round commercial Bike Park arises in the Innerleithen area in the Scottish Borders. The park would be situated in close proximity to the long-awaited Mountain Bike Innovation Centre, which in February had terms agreed in respect of its occupation of the Caerlee Mill.
The bike park, it is hoped, will bolster Scotland’s already strong cycle tourism trade, which is estimated to be worth somewhere between £117 and £239 million to the economy. Cycling as a whole is worth much more, according to Cycling Scotland, which places the positive effects of two wheel leisure and transport use at north of half a billion pounds.
The prior information notice clarifies “The Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal funding was approved for the ‘Mountain Bike Project’ as a whole and this project contains two elements; a Mountain Bike Innovation Centre (MTBIC) and the grant funding for the Commercial Bike Park opportunity presented here. The MTBIC is out of scope for this procurement but is a partnership development between South of Scotland Enterprise and Edinburgh Napier University.”
The estimated date for the publication of the contract notice is July 15th and expressions of interest in delivering the facility are asked for by June 13th. Expressions of interest can now be made by email here.
