Europcar Mobility Group UK invests in folding e-bikes across national network

Following a successful 3-month trial in Birmingham, Europcar Mobility Group UK is rolling out folding e-bikes across its UK network.

The bikes, from Brompton and Volt, will be placed in the boot of a customer’s vehicle to be used by the Europcar delivery driver – otherwise known as a ‘hiker’ – to travel to and from the customer’s address. Providing a sustainable alternative to requiring an additional car and driver for every delivery and collection customer, this initiative not only reduces CO2 emissions but also cuts journeys and frees up staff for other customer-facing activities.

The business is expecting to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 28,000Kg in 2022 when comparing like for like journeys using an additional Europcar driver and car for the delivery and collection.

“The introduction of the e-bikes to support our delivery and collection service is another step towards reducing carbon emissions in line with our ‘One Sustainable Fleet’ programme”, explained Ron Santiago, Managing Director, Europcar Mobility Group UK.

“Our ‘hikers’ will use the compact, easy to fold bikes when delivering and collecting vehicles which not only helps cut CO2 emissions, especially in built up city areas, but also presents additional operational advantages at a time when vehicle supply is limited.”

Europcar Mobility Group’s purpose is to offer attractive alternatives to vehicle ownership which will be increasingly “green” with more than 1/3 electric and hybrid vehicles by 2023.

As e-mobility gathers pace, another previously ICE focused business has announced a shift in focus toward EV and e-mobility solutions, with KwikFit NL launching the first of many E-Service branches to support e-bike and EV customers with a tailored support and maintenance offer.
