Genesis releases updated Croix de Fer, Tour de Fer and Vagabond

Genesis has revealed its latest Croix de Fer, Tour de Fer and Vagabond models to its range, marking the most significant update to the Croix de Fer since its inception in 2008.

Ride comfort has been the main focus of recent updates, with changes to the frame silhouette and increased tyre clearance being the major changes in this new range. This also gives the bike more modern compatibility with other technologies currently on the market. The bike has a ‘racier’ look than previously thanks to drawing inspiration from the Volare road bike’s custom top tube whilst having a dropped seat. Tyres with 700 x 47c are now compatible with this bike due to the increased tyre clearance. Croix de Fer is available in seven varieties of completed bikes as well as three framesuits.

Sam Lawson Genesis product manager said: “This launch marks our biggest release of new products since before the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s safe to say that we’re pretty excited about it!”

Since the bikes introduction in 2016, the Tour de Fer has had small adaptions based on user feedback as well as being adapted to be compatible with new componentry options. The largest change in this update is going from three drivetrains to two drivetrains, which has been incorporated into all four models. This creates a lighter bike for quicker speeds. Dynamo lighting has been fitted internally into the bike on the model’s Tour de Fer 30 and 40, whilst models 20 and 10 have the option of Dynamo lighting being addable in the future. Cable routing now has full cable outer for better protection from weather conditions, whilst remaining external for ease of maintenance.

Lawson added: “Huge tyre clearance and compatibility with a gravel suspension fork make the Vagabond an ideal model for those looking to blur the lines between gravel and MTB.”

The Vagabond has also seen updates, including a new frame with a longer wheelbase and slackened head angle, allowing for a more comfortable riding experience. Tyre clearance has been increased to 2.35” MTB tyre allowance. Maxxis Ikons has been fitted to the Vagabond 10 and 20 models, whilst suspension has also been corrected to ensure compatibility with 40mm suspension gravel fork.

Lawson said: “Our Tour de Fer remains the go-to choice for touring. You’ll find dynamo lighting, spare spokes, fast-rolling tyres and front and rear racks to ensure that your Tour de Fer is ready to go from the box. The team at Sportline have worked hard on this range and the initial feedback from our specialist Genesis retailer network when we previewed the range at our Ice Bike show in February was overwhelmingly positive. We’re thrilled to get these bikes out into the world.”
