Harley-Davidson debuts second generation Serial 1 e-bikes
Harley-Davidson has launched the second generation of its Serial 1 e-bikes, developed in partnership with Google Cloud.
The new Google Cloud connectivity – via the new Serial 1 App – captures essential ride data, significantly improves security and safety, and makes it easier to enjoy riding.
“It’s exciting to see how Serial 1 is enhancing transportation experiences with data and analytics,” said Matthias Breunig, Director, Global Automotive Solutions, Google Cloud. “We’re pleased to bring Google Cloud’s Intelligent Product Essentials solution to Serial 1 riders and help provide e-bike experiences that are safe and personalized to each interaction.”
The bikes comes with a focused feature-set aimed at enhancing the ride and ownership experience, including:
- Integrated Device Charger: All Serial 1 /CTY eBikes are equipped with an integrated USB-C charging cable located beneath the handlebar stem for powering a mobile phone to run the Serial 1 app.
- Route Planning & Turn-by-Turn Navigation: Integrating current Google Maps Platform Turn-by-Turn navigation data, Serial 1 App users can conveniently plan the best
bicycle-specific routes—including local bike lanes, bike paths and bike trails. - Real-Time Ride Data Dashboard: From speed to efficiency, from distance to battery range, every detail of the ride is available. Each time a ride is completed the rider will receive a post-ride summary enabling comparison with ride and performance data over time.
- Integrated Digital Security with Pinpoint Accuracy: With Serial 1’s Pinpoint Mode enabled, customers will have the ability to precisely track, monitor and digitally lock their Serial 1 e-bike no matter where it is relative to them.
In addition to cloud-enabled data management, Serial 1’s next-generation /CTY platform is further equipped with the most advanced connectivity hardware available to ensure the most reliable connection.
An integrated Internet of Things (IoT) device enables connection via not only Bluetooth wireless technology – but also using cellular data and/or GPS – to ensure that you can reliably access your bike even when it’s not within sight of you.
As reported in insideevs.com, “Serial 1 has been named a “strategic eMobility partner” by Google Cloud, which means the e-bike manufacturer will be among the first to incorporate Google’s software into its vehicles.”
“We are thrilled that Google Cloud has selected Serial 1 as an eMobility partner,” said Aaron Frank, Brand Director at Serial 1.
“This means that Serial 1 will integrate Google Cloud’s new Intelligent Product Essentials software solution into its e-bikes, enabling predictive, proactive, and intelligent features that provide a better e-bike experience for every rider.”
For anyone in the traditional Bicycle Industry wondering how seriously a Harley-Davidson spin-off e-bike business named Serial 1 should be taken, Harley-Davidson report $41.3 million in e-bike sales is just the start.
Generation 2 bikes come equipped with a Brose motor, pairing an Enviolo hub with Gates carbon drive belt, feature integrated lights, mudguards and racks as standard equipment. In short, everything you’d expect from an e-bike offered by leading cycling brands.
