Hope Technology launches EVO update for brake system Tech 4
Hope Technology has introduced an update to its Tech 4 brake series, aiming to improve control, power and serviceability for cross-country, trail and gravity bikes.
The EVO update includes improvements to both the master cylinder and callipers, with three brake options now available:
The EVO GR4 is a four-piston gravity brake designed for demanding applications such as gravity and eBike use. It features a stiffer one-piece calliper body, larger pistons that deliver 6% more power compared to the previous Tech 4 V4, and a slimmer profile to fit better on frames. The GR4 is not compatible with vented rotors to maintain calliper stiffness and performance.
The EVO TR4 is a four-piston trail brake that offers a 6.5% increase in braking ratio over the previous E4 system. It uses larger pistons and shares brake pads with the GR4, making it suitable for trail and all-mountain riding.
The EVO X2 is a two-piston cross-country brake pairing the EVO master cylinder with an X2 calliper. It focuses on lever feel and control rather than maximum power, making it suitable for lighter-duty use.
Key updates to the master cylinder include a new cam mechanism to reduce free stroke while maintaining the original Tech 4’s modulation and lever feel. Riders can also choose from three lever blade options: Standard, Control and Power. Control and Power are available as aftermarket parts.
Ergonomic improvements include a redesigned lever with an increased hook and a new textured surface to enhance grip and control.
The calliper bodies have been refined for increased stiffness, improved compatibility with modern frames and hubs, and a slimmer profile. The piston assembly incorporates a secondary guide bush and sliding guide to ensure smooth operation across the lever stroke.
Maintenance is simplified with a new bleed port on the master cylinder that allows bleeding without removing the lid.
Like previous Tech 4 models, the EVO brakes are designed, tested and manufactured in the UK. They will be available in black or silver, with the option of Hope’s signature coloured accents. The updated brakes will be available from dealers starting 1 September.
