Interbike mulls return and CABDA cancels February event on Covid worry

The Interbike trade show owners have sent an email out to select industry inboxes seeking opinion on whether the show should return to the calendar.

“The Interbike team is considering a relaunch or a new brand in the bike space,” started the mail, which linked through to a survey covering venues, timing and more.

A return to the mid-to-late September timing appears to be the initial framework, though respondents are able to give negative feedback. This is followed by the question “how do you feel about the trade show returning to Reno”, the single year location of the show’s final event before it was mothballed in 2018. Prior to that, the event has been held in Las Vegas, among other destinations, but the subject remained a hot talking point right to Emerald Exposition’s scrapping of the event.

The team leaders behind the final event have since moved on, with former director Patrick Hus now with Bianchi Bikes and Justin Gottlieb with Yuba Bicycles.

The feedback is open only to recipients of the email and they will have a week to respond.

CABDA cancels February event down to Covid

One of the shows to fill Interbike’s void successfully is CABDA, whose nationwide calendar of events has been warmly received since founder Jim Kertsen set up the series.

Unfortunately, in the face of increasing Omicron Covid-19 rates Kersten has taken the decision to cull the February Midwest event, which was due to be held on the 9th and 10th in Chicago.

We are working with our exhibitors and with our venue to find alternative dates,” a message on the site’s homepage reads.

Otehr shows to fill a gap left by Interbike include The Big Gear show, organised by Lance Camisasca, a veteran of bike trade events in the USA. This year’s event is pencilled in for August 2nd and 3rd at Park City, Utah.
