Merida announce Vansen Tseng as new President

Taiwanese bike and e-bike manufacture Merida has announced that, effective from the 1st of February this year (2023) and following its board of directors’ approval, Vansen Tseng takes over the position of President of Merida from his father, Michael Tseng.

Vansen is the grandson of Merida’s founder Mr Ike Tseng. This appointment is a milestone for Merida in delivering the leadership to the third generation of the Tseng family as planned. Meanwhile, Michael Tseng remains in his position as Merida chairman.

Vansen Tseng has a deep understanding of the business, having started his career at the grassroots level in 2004 and has since gained experience in manufacturing, procurement, product development, sales and marketing roles inside Merida.

Lately, Vansen successfully led the business in updating the company’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Currently actively implementing ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) reforms to further improve Merida’s environmental and commercial sustainability, Vansen is a keen cycling enthusiast, with his exploits including the tough 520 km ‘Twin Towers in One Day’ cycling challenge, riding from the north to the south of Taiwan.

With his passion for bicycles, Vansen commits himself to leading the business forwards to cope with the new challenges of the post-pandemic era and onwards to more success.

Founded in 1972 and having just celebrated its 50th anniversary, Merida achieved its consolidated yearly revenue for 2022 of NT$ 36.9 billion or approximately $ 1.27 billion. It generates more than 30% of Taiwan’s overall bike and e-bike export sales.

The EPS of Merida is NT$ 10.32 (about $ 0.35) per share as of the end of the third quarter of 2022. As evaluated by Interbrand, Merida is listed among the top ten Best Taiwan Global Brands with a brand value of $ 467 million in 2022.

During 2022 CIN had the opportunity to talk with Merida UK Managing Director Chris Carter, discussing the bike industry’s sudden appeal to investors and consumers. With the benefit of decades of experience, Chris gave some very farsighted and insightful answers.
