National Circuit Championships to be live streamed via British Cycling’s website

Next week’s 2017 HSBC UK | National Circuit Championships will be live streamed via British Cycling’s website, the governing body has announced.

The championships, which will take place in Sheffield city centre on Wednesday 19 July, will see some of the country’s most renowned cyclists go head-to-head for coveted national titles.

Both the women’s and the men’s races will be live streamed, allowing fans to follow all the action here.

Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s director of cycling, said:

“This HSBC UK | National Circuit Championships is one of the highlights of the elite road racing calendar so we are delighted to be able to take the event to cycling fans across the country in this way and bring our championships to as big an audience as possible.

“The quality of the field, the fast-paced, competitive nature of circuit racing and the enthusiastic crowds which always turn out in great numbers in Sheffield should make the championships a tremendous spectacle for those who tune in.”

Last week, British Cycling announced that three Olympic champions – Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and Ed Clancy – will be racing, and 2016 team pursuit gold medallist Archibald believes that circuit racing provides the perfect spectacle for fans of the sport.

She said:

“Spectators can expect fast racing – criterium races are fairly short, so riders get on it very quickly! There are some key features of classic criterium circuits – such as tight corners, chicanes, steep ramps and fast finishing straights – that always make the racing more exciting.

“We’ll all be looking to see how we can capitalise on these features and hopefully make a really exciting spectacle.”

The racing will take place on a 1.4-kilometre course that starts and finishes on Pinstone Street. The women’s race will begin at 6:30pm, with the men’s race starting at 8:00pm. Coverage begins at 6:15pm and will be available at http://po.st/CC17Live.
