SRAM launches GX Eagle Transmission
As sure as night follows day this was always going to happen: GX Eagle Transmission has arrived.
The launch sees SRAM blend GX budget-minded focus* with Eagle Transmission. Here the Chicago, Illinois headquartered business has taken the same holistic approach to developing and delivering a product ecosystem as we’ve seen across AXS. For mountain bikers, the Eagle Transmission system has set a new drivetrain standard, built around one constant found across all bikes – the centre of the wheel and axle. As was stated during the Eagle Transmission launch, “the design eliminates unnecessary parts, allowing all other features to work in perfect relationship to this constant”.
GX Eagle Transmission showcases the very latest Eagle Transmission innovation, which, interestingly, includes a derailleur sporting, “a revised battery position to better protect itself from impacts and to maintain crisp shifting and striking appearance throughout its entire lifespan.”
The launch announcement also highlights the ability to, ‘replace both its protective skid plates and two-piece outer link.” The rear derailleur, “also features a tool-free cage assembly – so it’s both removable and upgradeable too. With a steel inner cage that adds even more robustness, it’s been built for riders of the real world.”
*Price point – £430 for the RD, £270 for the Cassette, between £1015 and £1125 for a complete groupset – will, for many, remain the biggest hurdle to getting onboard. Here, OEM sales are sure to be the main means of driving GX Eagle Transmission into the hands of mountain bikers over the coming 6 to 12 months.
