New products: Shimano eBike drive units, Santini road champs kit & Selle Italia’s GT-1

With Eurobike around the corner the volume of new product announcements has ramped up. Here we compile fresh gear including Shimano eBike drive units, Santini World Champs kit and an urban saddle from Selle Italia…

SHIMANO’s new EP5 and E5100 drive units

SHIMANO’s new EP5 and E5100 drive units represent a significant step into a new era of eBikes, so said the brand. The EP5 drive unit is a powerful, yet quiet, model, with sleek design and a maximum torque of 60Nm.

The EP5 has an extended range, with a balanced assist output allowing riders to make the most of every pedal stroke and battery charge, providing riders with over 270 km range across a mostly flat commuting course. Auto shift helps riders focus on enjoying the ride and forgetting about those pesky gear changes by supporting SHIMANO’s AUTO SHIFT on bikes with an internal gear hub or rear derailleur.

As the ally to your daily commute and gateway to cycling adventures, the EP5 provides a mix of reliable performance, outstanding value and innovative technology, so said the brand.

With the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app, riders can tailor EP5 to match their riding style and preferences. The app allows them to customise their EP5 by creating up to 15 unique Assist Characters with FINE TUNE Mode, or personalize Assist Character, Max torque, and Assist start in BASIC Mode.

Also new from Shimano is the E5100 for everyday eBiking. This accessible, lightweight and compact drive unit is designed for smooth, natural rides. With a maximum torque of 50Nm, the E5100 is pitched at peace-of-mind commuting and everyday adventures.

Santini World Champs kit

The Road and Para-cycling Road World Champs take place in Zurich over 21-29 September 2024 and Santini has new lines to mark it.

The design of the Santini jersey features two logos on the chest and one on the back. Icons symbolising the host region of Zurich and the world of cycling have been carefully incorporated into the design, making each piece a unique commemorative memento of an important event like a World Championship.

The partnership between Santini Cycling and UCI has a long history that began in 1988. The UCI rainbow has been integrated with Santini’s established icons. The Zurich 2024 items also feature icons representing the world of cycling and para cycling.

The unisex jersey, available in two different colours, is part of an exclusive cycling kit that includes bib shorts, a pair of socks, a cap, a t-shirt and a crewneck sweatshirt. The collection will be available by the end of June.

Selle Italia GT-1

Selle Italia’s new GT-1 saddle is dedicated to urban mobility and commuting. Pitched as a lightweight, comfortable and eco-friendly solution, it features a shape to provide comfort on urban, electric or traditional bikes.

The saddle consists of just three components: the rails, the shell and the padding, with the cover integrated into the latter. The Lock-On System, the new mechanical trigger assembly system for shell and padding, allows for the assembly of components without the use of adhesives, thereby reducing the environmental impact in saddle production.

The padding is made of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), a plastic material making the saddle not only light but also soft and shock-absorbing, ensuring excellent and lasting support. Comfort is also guaranteed by the open body offering perineal pressure relief, in addition to the saddle width of 250 millimetres. The saddle cover is fully closed.

Selle-Italia is distributed to the UK cycle trade by ZyroFisher.
