Schwalbe ‘Gold Certified’ as a bicycle-friendly employer

Schwalbe has been awarded the coveted “Gold” seal as a “Bicycle-friendly Employer”.

The certification body – German traffic club Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) – has been awarding the EU-wide certification since 2017.

Schwalbe‘s four-person CSR team was responsible for the certification process and the audit. Schwalbe scored above average in almost all fields of activity of the EU-ADFC initiative. The following points, among others, received particular praise:

  • Employee-friendly company policy: “Clock in first and then take a shower.”
  • Modern sanitary facilities with new lockers and barrier-free showers
  • Very spacious, well-equipped professional workshop
  • Very spacious, bright, barrier-free bicycle garage with numerous charging options and a bicycle washing facility
  • Bike leasing (with Business Bike) for all employees including financial support

Frank Bohle, CEO Schwalbe – Ralf Bohle GmbH: “When planning our new corporate headquarters, which we moved into in 2021, we focused on our employees from the very beginning and comprehensively considered the issue of bicycle-friendliness. We are therefore extremely pleased to have been recognized and awarded the gold seal by the ADFC.”

Sara Tsudome, project manager at the ADFC national association, says: “Schwalbe supports employees who use bicycles to get to work with many different measures. This brings many advantages:
The employer can thus score points in company health, environmental and mobility management.”

The conclusion of the audit report is enormously positive: “Companies and employers live bicycle culture as a business model, at work, in leisure time and in the bike community. The bicycle is part of the corporate and everyday culture at Schwalbe; this is very clear in all fields of action and in numerous measures implemented in an exemplary manner.”

The business, known for it’s innovative recycling of tyres and tubes, has also seen strong financial performance over the past 12 months, reporting revenue up around 20%, reaching €273 million.
