Sea Otter Europe to build in urban mobility festival

The now sold out Sea Otter Europe Festival, which begins in Girona next week, will build in a new urban mobility festival, adding to the plethora of enthusiast races and exhibitions on offer.

Now 350 brands and 220 stands strong and with a 35% year-on-year growth, the newly-added urban element will bring together the main actors in the field of sustainable urban mobility.

Featured within a prominent space in the enclosure will be manufacturers of urban bicycles, software developers making navigation systems, components businesses, as well as several urban circuits where visitors can try bikes and other electric mobility systems.

With this strategic commitment, the new urban festival seeks to be the catalyst for the transformation that cities like Girona are experiencing, which promote new, more efficient transport models and put their promoters in contact with the industry that designs products and services. To facilitate the arrival of visitors by bicycle, the festival will have a large bicycle parking area, guarded and free.

This year the organization has a forecast of 4,000 cyclists who will participate in the different events. A broader attendance of more than 50,000 people is expected throughout the three days of the event. Registration for the races is still open at www.seaottereurope.com.

At the same time, these figures represent a economic return to the city and the territory (2.8 million euros in 2018, according to a study carried out by the Provincial Council of Girona). 10 days after the start, hotel reservations in the city are at very high levels and it is expected that shops, restaurants and service establishments will benefit from this high volume of people attracted by the sports program and activities.

The presence of more than a hundred accredited journalists from all over the world is expected, including the Cycling Industry News team who will be covering some of the event’s highlights online and in print.

Exhibitors are said to be placing their product into the demo area in good number. 35 brands will offer up over 500 demo units spanning MTB, road, gravel, urban and electric.
