The Latz Report renews flow of trade media for Australia and NZ

Long-time Australian bicycle industry reporter Phil Latz is to fill a void in trade media left by the closure of Bicycling Trade with The Latz Report.

The co-founder of Bicycling Australia in 1989, Latz’s 30-year career in reporting for Australia and New Zealand’s market has largely been spent growing a business that became the region’s largest specialist cycling media business.

After progressively selling the various parts of Bicycling Australia to three separate buyers between 2014 and 2017, Phil spent two years helping to establish Australia’s new peak cycling advocacy charity, We Ride Australia, before deciding to return to trade media.

“Since the purchaser of our former Bicycling Trade magazine and website closed it down, there has been nothing to service the Australian and New Zealand markets,” Latz explained.

“I’m still passionate about the bicycle trade and initial response from key industry members to our upcoming launch has been extremely positive.”

There will be no print edition of The Latz Report. All trade members will receive a free monthly digital newsletter. There will also be a website, www.thelatzreport.com.au, a YouTube channel, and presence on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

“Australia has only 25 million residents, but it is a very wealth country,” Latz reported. “It has sustained a record 28 consecutive years without a recession and is now the 13th largest economy in the world. New Zealand is much smaller at just under five million population, but has a vibrant cycling culture, especially relating to mountain biking and booming eMTB sales.”

In addition to the traditional bicycle distribution, wholesale and retailing sectors, The Latz Report will embrace the growth areas of e-mobility, cycle tourism, mountain bike parks, bike hire, bike and scooter share and mobile mechanical services.

Latz will now be contactable by email here, or by phone at +61 414 637 886.
