Vanmoof prints TV on bike boxes, damage levels drop 70-80%

Dutch cycling label Vanmoof have come up with an ingenious solution to lower damaged goods return rates on its bikes – simply print a flat screen TV on the front.

Having suffered greatly in the hands of both large and small logistics firms, the urban bicycle specialist is said to have shaved around 70 to 80% of damaged in transit claims by employing the tactic.

Posting to a blog, Vanmoof’s creative director said: “Since we started shipping bikes eight years ago, we’ve struggled to find shipping partners that give our bikes the same obsessive love and care that we do.

“Trust us, we’ve tried them all.”

With aspirations to shift the vast majority of its bikes via online channels inside the next four years, a solution was required.

“With a big hairy goal to sell 90% of our bikes online by 2020, we had to find a fix. Anyone in the ecom world knows you’re only as good as your shipping partner. Your covetable products, your frictionless website, your killer brand — they all count for nothing when your delivery partner drops the ball.”

The solution came from Co-Founder Ties, who noted the similarity in size between bike and TV boxes.

“And just like that, shipping damage to our bikes dropped by 70–80%,” concluded the blog post.
