Velo South cancelled due to stormy weather

Following on from news of divided opinions about the 100 mile closed roads event, Cycling Industry News has learned that the event has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Participants received text messages and notifications yesterday evening.

The VeloSouth website lists a number of hazards due to the poor weather and explains:

“Based on the advice of our third party health & safety company and our medical team, we have concluded that it would be unsafe for us to attempt to deliver an event of this scale in the forecasted conditions. We would be unable to guarantee the safety of our participants, spectators, volunteers, contractors and event staff across the 100 mile route and that is not a risk we are prepared to take.”

The statement goes on to explain that by giving notice it allows some costs to be avoided, especially for those participants planning to travel to the area from further afield. Velo South have offered a full refund for this years’ event and say they are determined to re-schedule for 2019.
