Wahoo renaissance continues with new CEO appointment

Wahoo Fitness has announced the appointment of Gareth Joyce as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and member of its Board of Directors, bringing experience of driving growth with major global consumer and technology brands, including Mercedes-Benz.

The news comes less than 12 months since Wahoo unveiled a new capital structure, when it put a period of uncertainty behind it and paved the way for innovation and growth with its Founder, Chip Hawkins, leading the Wahoo renaissance.

New CEO Gareth Joyce joins Wahoo from Proterra, Inc., where he served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Proterra, Joyce was responsible for one of Delta Air Lines’ largest business units, leading its global ground-based airport operations and its cargo business. During his 12-year tenure at Mercedes-Benz he served as President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada in his last role and held various senior leadership positions in the United States, Europe and South Africa. Gareth is a certified Wahooligan, we’re told, with a passion for running and cycling.

Dave Wichmann, Wahoo’s Chairman said: “We are delighted to have Gareth join Wahoo as its Chief Executive Officer and a member of our Board. He is an exceptional talent and proven leader of global companies with distinctive brands and market positions.  He comes to Wahoo at a time where it is poised for accelerated growth on a strong financial foundation.”

Chip Hawkins, Wahoo’s Founder and Board Member, said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for Wahoo and we’re pleased to have Gareth join to help drive our innovation and launch of new market-defining products. I look forward to working closely with Gareth and the board to ensure we achieve our mission of building a better athlete.”

Gareth Joyce, Wahoo’s new CEO, said: “I’m thrilled to join the Wahoo team and look forward to working together to continue the company’s innovation and growth. As an endurance athlete myself, this is an incredible opportunity to combine my passion and my profession at one of the world’s most innovative fitness technology brands.”

Wahoo recently announced its summer 2024 entry into the expansive indoor running market through the launch of its revolutionary treadmill, KICKR RUN, following the release of its innovative KICKR MOVE and KICKR SHIFT indoor cycling trainers which came to market in September 2023 and a progressive new growth collaboration with Zwift, Inc. in August 2023.
