Corebike preview: Lyon Equipment’s 7mesh debut, jobs drive and local beer!

Lyon Equipment are one of many returning to Corebike in its physical form this year and, following the gap year, dealers will be seeing brands like 7mesh for the first time, plus new product from countless others.

Offering visitors a range of show exclusives and a local brewed beer as a minimum, there’s a handful more incentives to get registered for the event, which we’ll detail here.

“With a bit of luck, John Zopfi – global wholesales lead for 7mesh – will be making an appearance at the show,” starts Nils Amelinckx.

For Lyon accounts existing and prospective, Corebike will represent the first time this brand has been physically shown.

7mesh is a Squamish based clothing manufacturer which strives to bring Alpine grade apparel to the world of cycling. The team leadership draws on years of experience earned with Arc’Teryx, one of the world’s most technical outdoor clothing brands.

“With incredible detail covering both fit and construction techniques, we strongly feel it needs to be seen and touched to fully appreciate the workmanship and the reason why the brand is quickly becoming the gold standard in cycling apparel,” says Amelinckx.

In addition to some key pieces like the Skypilot jacket and Thunder Pant, Lyon will bring along the F22 collection giving dealers an insight into how to brand continues to set new standards and paves the way with innovation.

Skypilot Jacket
Skypilot is a wind and waterproof bike jacket built for every adventure. From local trails to long trips into the backcountry, Skypilot’s soft and silent GORE-TEX® Active 3L fabric breathes and protects like a second skin, keeping your temperature in check even under hard efforts.

Thunder Pant
7mesh took on the challenge of making a weatherproof adventure pant to remove your last excuse for not heading out onto mucky trails, creating something that can be worn all day, or stowed in a bag for a quick change on longer trips.

MK3 Cargo Bib Short
Built on the multi award winning MK3 platform, Cargo is a refined, long-distance road cycling bib short, built to take your customer further in total comfort. Spacious pockets on the legs and back of the bibs complement bags on the bike, or add to existing jersey storage options for multi-day expeditions into the wilds.

The Lyon team will be out in numbers with new division leader Jordan Lunn supported by Ed Braithwaite (7mesh brand manager and tech lead), Nils Amelinckx (for all things marketing) and further support from Martin Kirton from Lyon’s aftersales department.

“We are currently recruiting for two new sales reps, but it is unlikely they will be in place in time for the show,” says Amelinckx, however you can apply for those roles here.

Elsewhere on the product front, this year Ortlieb celebrates its 40th anniversary, and while some of the new product pays homage to their heritage, all of them draw on four decades’ worth of innovation and continuous refinement.

New lines include the Vario PS. On the one hand, it’s a classic pannier bag, equipped with either the  Quick-Lock 2.1 or 3.1 system. Yet in seconds, the pannier transforms into a backpack, complete with a padded laptop compartment.

Alongside this, the Original Line is a tribute to the past four decades. Marrying the retro look of the first Ortlieb panniers with a modern technical setup, there will be the Bike-Packer Original and the matching Ultimate Original in a limited edition package to celebrate the company’s fortieth anniversary.

The Salsa Journeyman is just about to get relaunched as the Journeyer – an entry level gravel bike that has all the Salsa DNA to offer versatility and the ability to go on longer journeys.

Obviously, the original gravel race bike – the Warbird – will still sit proud on its own pedestal at the show, given how pivotal it was to the development of the gravel bike category at large.

Teravail
If you’re a fan of tan wall, tubeless ready tyres that go up with just a trackpump and supple sidewalls that make for a buttery ride, Teravail is probably already on your radar. More recently, the brand has expanded into the world of mountain bike with the Warwick being the latest tyre to feature in the brand’s trail riding line-up. Those who prefer their tyres in plain black needn’t shun the brand, as all models are available in both black and tan in a variety of sizes and plies.

Arundel
A little gem in the Lyon Cycle portfolio, Arundel produces some of the finest bike accessories in the world. Case in point, the Mandible. Often subbed in by pros who want to have the best bottle retention on the market when charging across the cobbles or endless miles of gravel. Arundel’s range extends well beyond cages and includes saddle bags, bar tape and tools. For the full range, check out the brand at the show.

Julbo
French eyewear brand Julbo will be back at Corebike with their Fast and Light range perfectly tailored for the world of mountain and gravel bikes. By drawing on their mountaineering heritage and feedback from sponsored athletes including Remy Metailler and Fabien Barel, Julbo have created a highly commercial range that majors on lens technology rather than marketing talk.

Amelinckx concludes: “We see Corebike as a huge opportunity to showcase much more product form our portfolio than a sales representative on the road could ever achieve. We also hope to present product in an inspirational way, perhaps inspiring some retailers to review how product is merchandised and displayed which again is something that is more difficult for a travelling sales rep to do. We feel that business is predominantly based on relationships, and those are still best built face-to-face. Above anything, it is a great opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues, partners and friends in a relatively short space of time and to try to return to a form of normality after what has been an interesting couple of years.”
