Bikmo launch fleet insurance for the cycling sector

Specialist insurer Bikmo has announced the launch of a new flexible fleet insurance offering to support the growth of bike and micro-mobility fleet owners and operators.

Bikmo’s fleet insurance protects businesses managing a bike, e-bike or e-cargo fleet with ease. The policy covers theft and accidental damage of bikes, including for commercial use. The new service is aimed at cycle hire, lease and subscription businesses, couriers, and other businesses relying on a fleet of bikes.

The existing growth in fleet operations from bike leasing providers  through to last mile delivery and gig economy operators was given a further boost by the European Parliament this week who are aiming to double the number of kilometres ridden by bike by 2030.

Bikmo’s Global Head of Partnerships Rob Grisdale said: “I’m delighted to formally launch our fleet insurance service. It comes at a great time, as we’re seeing more demand for bike leasing and subscription services, and more businesses using bikes instead of cars and vans to move people and goods around. Supporting this movement fits perfectly with our mission to protect the world’s riders and the places we ride.”

The announcement follows Bikmo’s partnership with Blike, embedding insurance with every e-bike subscription, covering for theft and damage at the customer’s home and when on the move.

Steve Ellis, CFO at Blike commented: “We wanted to include insurance protection to our e-bike subscription package without getting bogged down in technical integrations or handling customer claims. Bikmo delivered, leaving us to focus on getting bikes to customers and growing our business.”

In early 2022 Bikmo launched a business focused service – Bikmo Bike Shop Insurance – designed specifically to provide cycle retailers with a specialist approach to business insurance.
