BMC Kaius arrives in-store in the UK

UK retailers have begun to receive the first of their BMC Kaius stock, with stores seeing arrival of the flagship Kaius 01 One orders.

Launched by BMC as the elite race companion for all terrains, Conrad Glassey, Head of Product Management at BMC describes the Kaius as “an ultra-lightweight gravel bike built to go fast when the terrain gets rough.”

With the Kaius, BMC specifically created a frame with a longer reach, emphasizing that it shifted the front wheel forward to improve stability, and increase traction. A shorter stem then delivers responsive handling, designed to deliver a progressive and race tuned geometry.

The Kaius 01 One features BMC’s proprietary lightweight ICS cockpit system – a one piece carbon bar and stem – with a 6mm variation between width at the hoods Vs in the drops (eg 36mm / 42mm); measurements popular in aero bar configuration for fast road riding, which gives a clear window into the character of the Kaius.

Stefan Christ, Head of R&D at BMC gives insight into the processes that led to fusing the 2 worlds of road racing and gravel riding: “We tuned Kaius to the gravel wavelength to harness the precision and performance of our leading road technologies whilst ensuring front-end stability at speed and high traction on loose surfaces.”

So a gravel racing scene weapon the BMC Kaius most definitely is, with a weight (7.4kg for the 01 One) to rival the lightest bikes in the sector.

For many in the UK the fact that the bike can also run a 2 x drive train set up (size of largest outer ring TBC), and comfortably fits a 44mm tyre, suggests serious winter bike which will be every bit as rapid as the summer ride, whilst also offers up room for SKS Speedrocker mudguards…!

ZyroFisher are UK distributors for both BMC and SKS.
