We are extremely sad to report that an icon of BMX and later other segments of cycling, Dave Mirra has died, aged 41.
The North Carolina-based star went on an unstoppable run of X-Games triumphs between 1995 and 2008, scooping 24 medals – a record tally that to this day stands within BMX.
In recent years Mirra had become a rally driving enthusiast, as well as Triathlete, although the freestyle influence often remained.
ESPN, the broadcaster of X-Games paid tribute saying: “Dave Mirra, your courage, determination and natural skill in everything you pursued pushed the world of action sports to become a better place. From all of us at X Games and ESPN, we salute your contributions.”
Mirra was married to wife Lauren and has two daughters – Mackenzie and Madison.
