Citroën hits out at eBike maker using its name

Automotive brand Citroën has issued a warning to Elektro Mobile Deutschland GmbH in respect of electric bikes listed for sale bearing the logo of the car brand, apparently without permission.

Dutch eBike news site e-Fahrer reports the Citroën press department raising the complaint having earlier this week spotted news stories announcing the car maker’s entry into the electric bike space.

This would not be unusual by recent trends, just yesterday Porsche bought out the remaining shares in eBike OEM Fazua. Meanwhile, numerous other motoring labels, such as Mercedes, Ducati and Harley Davidson (via Serial1), now have logos adorned to light electric vehicles.

“These products are not authorized by us and the use of our trademark and logo has also been made without our authorization,” a Citroën spokesperson told the site.

Citroën has since reportedly asked the German electric bike business to immediately close its sales pages and the homepage now features only a ‘contact us’. The business was set to sell the bikes into the Germany, Austria and Swiss marketplaces.

At least six bike designs have appeared bearing the logo, each pitched at the cycle commuter market, plus one in a cruiser style.
