Brompton recalls FAG bottom bracket clad bikes sold from 2014 to 2017

Brompton Bicycle has issued a voluntary recall on bottom bracket cartridges on bikes with affected FAG bottom brackets, believing about 1 in 5,000 bikes to be at risk of developing a failure.

“Potentially we are going overboard with this recall,” says CEO William Butler-Adams in a video detailing the recall. “But it is critical to us to protected the experience of our customers. We are founded on quality, founded on really good engineering so if we have the slightest concern we have to act.”

The affected bottom brackets are found on bikes made between April 2014 to May 2017. The serial numbers concerned have serial numbers ranging 1403284144 until 1705150001 and relates to any model of the firm’s portfolio. The serial number is found on the ID plate or sticker on the rear of the seat tube.

The third party supplied BB has a failure rate of 0.02%. Customers will now have their bike’s bottom bracket replaced free of charge.
