Cadence Performance acquires Evernden Cycles, soon to be a Giant brand store

Cadence Performance has announced the acquisition of Evernden Cycles in Kent, taking the firm’s retail portfolio to six branches.

With Evernden Cycles’ owner retiring, the third-generation family business passes the torch after more than 70 years trading.

George Stavrinidis, Director at Cadence Performance, commented, “we are privileged to be taking over this third-generation family-run business; the high standards of service will be kept as we honour the rich heritage of this store and the community it serves.”

“Cadence Performance brings cyclists together at all levels. The group are thrilled to be extending its reach, serving the existing loyal customer base in and around Kent.  We’re eager to begin representing cycling in this area, supporting with all our additional services, including bike fitting, coaching, ride-outs, workshop and much more.”

Trading as Cadence initially, the store will transition to a Giant Brand Store by the end of 2022. Evernden Cycles, formerly a long-term dedicated Giant Partner, built a loyal customer base through their commitment to the sport.

Ian Beasant, Managing Director of Giant UK, said, “we’re delighted to be working with Cadence as they take over Evernden Cycles. Thanks to years of dedication from Tony Evernden and his team, they have built a strong and loyal following to the brand.”

The store in Kent benefits from an experienced team who have transitioned over to join the Cadence Performance family.

At the present time there are 29 UK stores carrying the Giant branding above the door, with a mix of ownership. Cadence Performance operates several and most recently acquired the UK’s largest Giant store, the St Paul’s branch in Central London.

As the trend of retail acquisitions by brands accelerates, Specialized’s recent acquisition of Rutland Cycling may soon affect the long-term presence for brands like Giant at branches such as Rutland Water. Cycling Industry News has sought clarity from Specialized UK on the long-view retail strategy and hopes to soon carry an interview with the brand on the subject.
