Campagnolo launch 1240g Hyperon Ultra wheelset

Campagnolo have launched the brands lightest disk brake wheelset to date, introducing the 1240g Hyperon Ultra DB.

On launch the brand states, “We have used the combined knowledge of our innovators, lab experts and world tour riders together to form a wheelset with the magic ratio of features. Lightweight construction, unmatched reactivity and superior handling.”

The rims feature the brands tried and tested 2-Way Fit technology, with no holes on the upper bridge. 2-Way fit makes it possible to fit either a tubeless tyre or a classic clincher.

Campagnolo also point out that the single-joint construction, down from the industry standard 4 joints, guarantees, and further increases, wheelset stiffness, reducing potential points of weakness.

Internal spoke nipples will certainly make Hambini (aerodynamically) happy. We’ll wait to see how your local bike shop workshop staff feel about them.

Naturally enough, for any Campagnolo product, engineering talk is fast followed by emphasis on the aesthetics. Here the brand have taken H.U.L.C. moulding technology and C-LUX finish to ‘the next level’ which, in their words means, ‘making Hyperon Ultras easy on the eye, enhancing the looks of any bike, and light on the scales.’

Versions of the wheel are available with Campagnolo N3W freehub (designed to house 11- 12- and 13-speed cassettes with 9- 10- and 11-tooth starting sprockets), as well as Shimano HG, Sram XDR freehubs.

The new, lighter, N3W freewheel body is also fitted with CULT (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology) bearings. The brand states these ceramic bearings turn inside polymer cages on wear-resistant stainless-steel races, maximising the efficiency and durability of the bearings, requiring only periodic cleaning and light lubrication with synthetic oil.

So do the Hyperon Ultra DB really represent ‘The magic ratio of performance’? We’ll leave that for those who’ve ridden the wheelset to decide.

In the UK retailers can order the Hyperon Ultra DB, and any other Campagnolo products, from Chicken Cyclekit.
