Decathlon offers up to 45% returns with UK bike buyback programme

Decathlon has launched a buyback programme, allowing customers to trade in unwanted bikes.

Under the programme, customers can bring their bikes to any Decathlon store in the UK, where experts will assess their condition and provide an instant quote. To support this, the company has also introduced a quick online quote tool, enabling customers to see an estimated value—often up to 45% of the original retail price—before completing the full process.

The service accepts all brands, from Specialized and Trek to local bike shop labels. Customers simply need to be Decathlon members at the time of exchange, with membership free to join.

The programme forms part of the company’s wider strategy to tackle sporting waste, with products from up to 15 sports eligible for return, including fitness equipment, racquet sports gear, golf equipment, horse riding products, GPS watches, camping gear, kayaks and paddleboards.

Returned products are serviced and refurbished by Decathlon experts before being resold through the retailer’s Second Life range at a reduced price. This helps make sport more accessible while supporting the circular economy for sporting goods.

In addition, Decathlon has recently introduced a one-hour bank transfer payment option, enabling customers to receive cash as quickly as one hour after selling their bikes or other unwanted sporting equipment. Alternatively, customers can opt for a gift card for use in store or online, with an additional 20% bonus on top of the trade-in value available from 23 March to 12 April.

“This year, our BuyBack service offers customers instant cash for their unwanted or outgrown bikes, helping their pockets as well as the planet. With our new one-hour bank transfer and special Easter bonuses, we are providing the flexibility and value needed to turn unused gear into new adventures,” said Chris Allen, Sustainability Leader at Decathlon UK.

Since launching BuyBack in 2023, more than 10,000 items have been returned. The service has seen a surge in popularity as UK consumers increasingly turn to the circular economy to support their active lifestyles. In the past year alone, searches for bike buyback services have risen by as much as 300%, as commuters and families seek smarter ways to upgrade their gear.
