e-Cargo bike label Urban Arrow acquired by Pon Bike

Pon Bike has acquired Dutch e-cargo bike brand Urban Arrow for an undisclosed sum.

Notable for being seen bearing the livery of logistics firms such as DHL and UPS, Urban Arrow’s cargo bikes are, according to a press release issued today, the fastest growing manufacturer of electric cargo bikes in the world.”

Indeed the brand is now building for both a fast growing consumer demand, as well as for businesses buying into the research that shows proven time and money savings for cargo bike delivery when compared to vans.

In business for ten years, the Amsterdam-based firm will remain under the leadership of its founding members Gerald van Weel and Jorrit Kreek.

Kreek said: “Now that we have Pon Bike as a strong partner, we can continue to innovate and use our smart urban mobility solutions to make a contribution to the city of the future.

“The demand for our products has been overwhelming since the beginning. Our products perfectly respond to the challenges in cities across the globe and therefore fulfill a strong market demand. Thanks to the mobility solutions and sustainability ambitions of Pon, we can now grow even faster.”

Marc Bakker, CEO of Pon Bike said of the buyout: “Urban Arrow is tapping into these possibilities (of keeping cities accessible) with a range of different types of cargo bikes. The company is a perfect addition to our portfolio of premium bicycle brands and sustainable concepts,.”

Pon Bike is the cycling division of the much larger Pon Holdings, which operates in the wider automotive space, among others.

The e-Cargo bike label acquisition gives Pon Bike’s portfolio further breadth, sitting the brand alongside the likes of Cervelo, Gazelle, Kalkhoff, Focus, Santa Cruz and Univega.

Pon’s competitors have likewise made acquisitions in the e-cargo bike space.
