Ere Research unveils new Explorator GCR40 aero wheelset

Ere Research has introduced a new aero optimised wheelset to its product line up with the launch of the Explorator GCR40.

Superseding the Explorator GC45, the new wheel is specifically designed to be strong and sturdy for everyday use.

Weighing 1023 grams for the rear wheel and 861 grams for the front wheel, the new alloy rimmed wheels are said to offer an optimal weight which strikes a balance, providing a robust and responsive feel without unnecessary bulk. The launch announcement further states that the Explorator GCR40 offer the ideal combination of strength, performance and aerodynamics, making the wheelset an ideal option for putting mileage into, be that sportives or training. In keeping with the focus on a robust, everyday useable, wheelset, the maximum rider weight is 130 kg.

Rims

The 40mm aero profile rim is made from a specific Niobium alloy with a T10 heat treatment which is said to make the rims ultra strong and durable. The rim profile has a 21mm inner width and deep 9mm inner drop, with the aim of make difficult tyres easy to install, whilst aiming to make wider tyres fit better, and offer the right sizing. The rims are said to offer great stability for tyres up to 40c. The Explorator GCR40 wheelset comes tubeless ready right out of the box, making tyre setup as hassle-free as possible whilst delivering the puncture-resistant, lower-rolling-resistance ride tubeless tyres have become known for.

The wheels are built with Belgium made Sapim Leader spokes made from Swedish stainless steel and black nipples, creating a package with strong performance and a keen price point; 499 Euros.

The Explorator GCR40 are built around X12, 24 hole, IONA front and rear hubs. The IONA straight pull hubs are supported by industrial bearings and a 4-pawl ratchet system.

Bearings can be upgraded with either SKF or ceramic bearings. Freehub bodies for either Shimano HG/Micro Spline, Sram XDR or Campagnolo/Ekar are also available.

UK retailer support

UK retailers will be able to access Ere Research wheels via a dedicated, UK staffed and located, team of sales agents, with the brand having representative – John Hollier, Dieter Pullan, out on the road meeting retailers.

International Sales Manager, Chris Hewings is responsible for setting up and managing the International Distributor network, as well as managing the new UK agent team. In addition, Chris will also be responsible for ‘dealer direct’ sales in Ireland.
