Facebook’s free wifi radar could bring new customers to your door

Facebook’s mapping of free wi-fi hotspots is to fully roll out to users around the globe on both iPhone and Android.

Trials began in November last year, giving selected users the ability to scour the local area via the app for free wi-fi. Why are we, a bike industry website telling you? The feature may well bring customers to doors of bike shop coffee shops (we all have those, right?).

As explained by Facebook: “Find Wi-Fi helps you locate available Wi-Fi hot spots nearby that businesses have shared with Facebook from their page. So wherever you are, you can easily map the closest connections when your data connection is weak.”

To find Wi-Fi hotspots, users simply need open the Facebook app, click on the “More” tab and then “Find Wi-Fi.” Once in the “Find Wi-Fi” tab you may need to turn it on. You can then browse the closest available hotspots on a map, and learn more about the businesses hosting them.

With footfall levels among the primary concerns of independent bicycle retailers anything that can bring new customers in store is welcomed.
