Focal Events co-founder turns attention to consultancy business

Paul Errington, co-founder of Focal Events and the Dirty Reiver gravel event, has announced he is to leave his current position with the company to focus on his own business, Northern Consultancy.

Northern has several years of experience providing consultancy and project management services to major brands across a variety of business sectors.

Errington said: “The story of Focal Events is one of increasing strength and influence within one of the most dynamic areas of cycling. This seems an appropriate juncture to concentrate my attention and experience on my original business, Northern Consultancy Co. I am confident that I leave Focal in capable hands and the business will continue to prosper.

“Our primary focus will be to advise brands and businesses within the cycling and adventure industry on how to utilise effective event and experience-based activations to fulfil their specific marketing and PR needs.”

Focal Events was set up by Paul with fellow directors Andy Williamson and Bryan Singleton after the inaugral Dirty Revier in 2015, which delivers events within gravel and adventure-based cycling.

Dirty Reiver attracted 450 riders in 2015. In 2018 the event increased to 1,000 participants and is recognised as one of the premier, off-road challenges in the UK calendar. Focal Events also added Grinduro Europe to its portfolio, along with new concepts in brand-supported events.

Remaining Focal Events Directors, Bryan Singleton and Andy Williamson, said of Errington’s departure: “Since the start of Focal Events Paul has been instrumental to the growth and success of the company. Within his marketing and brand sponsorship role his strategy was to develop and secure long-lasting relationships and give birth to unique marketing propositions generating strong brand relationships for the business.”

“Focal Events will now continue along our existing path of growth and development aiming to further expand the existing event offerings, as well as develop new opportunities whilst still delivering on our reputation of quality rider experiences.”
