GT Bicycles reveals “BMX styled” electric bike

GT Bicycles has lifted the lid on a new line of bikes that straddle the border of cruiser, BMX styling and electric bike.

Found under the Life + Style banner the bike and electric bike catalogue are, according to GT, pitched at “anyone wanting a solid ride for cruising, commuting, sending or socializing… and to look good while doing it!”

The brand’s Performer features as a bike powered up, but does not stick firmly to its BMX roots, opting for a much larger 29-inch wheel. Just one frame size is on offer for the electric bike, which weighs in at 24.8kg and carries a 418Wh battery. European spec models will work around pedal assistance, but an American spec model will offer a throttle action.

As an aside to that it offers up a Bafang Hub-driven pedal assistance, nine derailleur gears and seat stays that are bolstered to allow riders to stand on them, presumably for tricks or backies. With the electrics on offer, a USB charge port will be one of the extra features appreciated by the intended audience.

Stock of this line is expected shortly and will come in at £1,799.99.

GT’s parent company Dorel Sports has enjoyed a resurgence in bicycle trade, reporting profits up 73% in Q1 versus the prior year’s figures. UK bike shops can access the brand via Cycling Sports Group UK.
