Hargroves Cycles acquired, becomes 99 Bikes and reveals expansion plan

Four-store strong Hargroves Cycles has undergone a change of ownership and has joined the Pedal Group, rebranding as 99 Bikes as from today (17 April).

Hargroves has stores in Chichester, Swindon, Southampton and Winchester.

The Pedal Group owns a vast number of 99 Bikes shops in Australia and New Zealand, as well as Advance Traders – a Brisbane-based bicycle distributor.

In a statement, the firm said: “Under the 99 Bikes brand, we intend to grow our store network and get more people cycling more often.

“Other than our change of name and logo 99 Bikes will continue to offer the same industry leading brands and award winning service that Hargroves Cycles customers have come to expect during our 40+ years of trading.”

In a LinkedIn post, Peter Hargroves said it is “the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. After 40 years Hargroves Cycles will become 99bikes. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey so far. It’s been my life’s work and I’m happy the journey carries on with the same stores, same service, same team, just a different name.”

All outstanding gift cards, store credit, workshop jobs, special orders and reward points are still active and remain valid. All future returns and warranty claims will also be honoured under their current terms.

99 Bikes said its objective is to be the world’s most approachable bike shops: “We take our customers from their first bike right through to their dream bike. From beginners, to recreational riders, to enthusiasts – we are the experts, we add value and we always maintain our approachable manner.”
