LIOS Bikes hit by £100,000 break-in
Thieves stole 11 bikes from Lee-on-Solent-based LIOS Bikes last weekend (2 September 2023).
The organised theft of over £100,000 worth of bikes, including bespoke one-offs, saw five people in a large van and car take the bikes, with two look-outs on mopeds also involved. Petrol and battery disc cutters were used to cut through the metal shutters and door.
LIOS Bikes is owned by former Royal Marine officer Steve McCulley, who opened the cycling business after his military career was ended. He survived three IED blasts and serious injuries in Afghanistan in 2011, and after a three week coma and three year rehabilitation, McCulley set up LIOS.
McCulley said: “We are all utterly devastated by what happened on Saturday. I know I’ll never get the bikes back, as they’re probably already stripped down, but I am hoping that any attention that this gets might help to catch the criminals.”
There’s footage of the robbery here.
