Local Bike Shop Day set for April, BikeisBest backs event

In early December a poll among Local Bike Shop Day participating retailers chose Saturday 30th April, the weekend of the May Bank Holiday (fingers crossed for some nice weather!) as the new date to celebrate bike shops across the nation.

The key objectives for this year’s collaborative event involve getting new people to visit their local bike shops and building a community customer group of new and returning cyclists across the nation.

In 2022 the organisers are teaming up with industry campaign #BikeIsBest to increase the reach and involvement of Local Bike Shop Day, with ideas including hosting, “ask us anything” sessions, encouraging bike shops to welcome new cyclists into a friendly and encouraging environment.

The organisers at the Association of Cycle Traders also thank Cyclescheme for its continued support in the promotion of the nationwide indie store celebration, sponsoring competitions and fund promotional materials which bike shops can use for the third year running.

Last year 370 independent bike shops took part in the event, which previously ran in August. During the event the dedicated website experienced the highest levels of traffic through its bike shop locator tool. Simultaneously, Twitter engagement reached around 250,000 users with hashtags like #supportyourlocalbikeshop used to promote bike store events.
