Moore Large seek to appoint an administrator

It has been reported that Moore Large, “the UK’s largest family owned supplier and distributor of bicycles Moore Large & Co filed a Notice of Appointment to appoint an administrator in the High Court on the 13/03/2023.”

Updating this feature, Moore Large have announced, “The affairs, business and property of Moore Large are being managed by the Administrators who act as agents of the Company without personal liability.”

“Moore Large has ceased trading and as a result, is unable to fulfil any outstanding orders or provide refunds to customers.”

In April of 2022 the business underwent a Management buy out, by the board of directors, Dale Vanderplank, Adam Garner, Adam Biggs and Andrew Walker. This saw the retiring Chairman, Nigel Moore, bring to an end three generations and 75 years of Moore family involvement in the bicycle business.

The business has seen challenging times in the past months, with the November multi-million pound stock clearance sale seeing up to 90% off trade pricing across bikes, components, accessories, and clothing from leading brands ONEAL, E*thirteen, WeThePeople, Box, Jagwire, and SuperB Tools, as well as house brands Forme bikes and Everything to Cycling.

February saw the business withdraw from COREbike, a clear signal that challenges had not been resolved by previous actions.

Moore Large has a rich history in the cycle trade, with over 75 years in the business. John Moore opened a bike shop in Rickmansworth 1947 and in 1974 teamed up with Cliff Large – a distributor for Puch. Reportedly one of the first distributors to import from the Far East – bringing in Kenda from ’76, other long term distribution relationships include Haro, which it began working with in 1994. In addition to distribution, Moore Large has a number of own brands, including Forme which launched in 2010.
