New road and gravel cycling wheels and components label ÆRA launches

A new cycling components company backed by a specialist British design and engineering business has launched under the ÆRA banner.

Initially producing components and wheels for the road and gravel markets, ÆRA will debut to many at the upcoming Cycle Show, for which trade can register free.

Among the products first available, UK built carbon wheels and carbon forks will feature with option to customise spec.

Founder, David Clow, told CI.N: “Riders can customise the hubs, rims and spoke count of their wheelsets, choosing from Hope, Tune and Chris King hubs, as well as a Son Schmidt dynamo front hub. Three rim depths are on the option list, the AR|36, AR|46 and AR|56mm, each with 24 or 28-hole options. The rims are optimised for smooth-rolling 28mm tyres, and will work flawlessly with tyres from 25mm all the way up to 50mm.”

All wheelsets are to be laced in the UK by trained wheelsmiths who will be using Sapim CX-Ray spokes and Sapim black brass nipples to complete each build.

Clow added: “ÆRA was inspired by our own bike rides, adventures and tours on roads and gravel tracks. It’s this insatiable appetite for adventure that led to our development of these amazing new wheels and components”.

“All of our products have been designed to offer the perfect balance of performance, durability and reliability with an elegant aesthetic. The very essence of adventure is the unknown, and this means being prepared for anything along the way. We place extraordinary emphasis on reliability and this means we make every effort to design our wheels and components to be as tough as possible.”

Also appealing to the cyclist who seeks versatility from their bike, the firm’s range of forks will accommodate tyres of up to 38mm wide (700C tyres) and 40mm wide (650B tyres).

Perhaps better suited to the commuter, the firm’s AR Dynamo Disc fork features internal cable routing and a crown mounting to place the dynamo light centrally at the optimum height.

Finally, the Road Disc and Road Caliper forks both offer clearance for 700C tyres of up to 32mm without mudguards, and 28mm with mudguards.

All disc forks are flat mount and feature an internal brake cable. They are supplied with 12mm Shimano E-thru axles. What’s more, each is hand-painted in the UK, in brevet black, unless custom colour is requested.

Bicycle retailers are invited to contact the business to enquire about limited stockist opportunities here.
